Magnezit Group completes repair works of a walking-beam continuous furnace at PJSC “ArcelorMittal Krivoy Rog”

Magnezit Group completed repair works of a walking-beam continuous kiln at section-rolling workshop #1 at “ArcelorMittal Krivoy Rog”, the biggest company of mining and metals production sector in Ukraine.

Successful completion of the important and large-scale project was possible due to long-term experience of Magnezit Group in the field of all-inclusive service of heating units of different type as well as strategic partnership with RATH GmbH, international industrial company providing joint project development for modernization of furnaces of rolling and machine-building production. Repair of the walking-beam continuous furnace is the first practical example of the effective partnership.

Magnezit Group provided “ArcelorMittal Krivoy Rog” with a complete service package from engineering of separate parts for heating units up to delivery of a complete set of materials and equipment, as well as field supervision. The project included repair of walking-beam continuous furnace lining elements: walking and stationary parts of walking hearth, walking and stationary parts of hearth beams, flue ducts. The customer was provided with a working draft of the flue duct lining, a working draft of the walking hearth lining and beams, kneading-and-mixing machinery for castables application. Supervision of lining-installation works was organized. Materials and equipment in full sets were supplied to customer’s warehouse. To fulfill the installation works Magnezit’s experts were sent to Krivoy Rog.

The object of the repair is unique. It is a modern walking-beam heating continuous furnace with walking beams and a walking hearth. It is designed to heat blanks before their rolling on a 150-1 rod mill. In the first part of the furnace there are cooled walking and stationary beams that stretch for 1/3 of the usable hearth length. These beams allow heating of blanks with burners located in the lower zones. The remaining part of the furnace has a walking hearth designed to heat blanks with arc burners of the upper zones. The furnace was installed and lined with materials produced by Calderys (Plibrico) in 1995. Over its operating period there were seven capital repairs (inter-repair time was 1,5-2 years) including partial repair of: skids pipes lining, burner blocks lining, working lining of furnace hearth and flue lining.
